A beautiful seaside town in one of the prettiest parts of Britain is severely underrated compared to its much more famous nearby. The UK’s coastline is dotted with an array of seaside towns and villages, each with their own unique personality and history.
Cornwall is one part of the UK with dozens of towns that used to wave sailors off across the Atlantic Ocean or act as safe harbours for the economy and the Royal Navy.

Today, the towns have become havens of tourism that are filled to the brim during warmer months of the year as people flock for some seaside sun. One of those pretty Cornish towns that attracts tourists is Hayle. One thing that often counts against it is that it gets overshadowed, by its very famous neighbour, St Ives. Hayle was a economic powerhouse during the 1800s (Image: Getty) Despite this, the town is still worth a visit regardless of the time of year with a range of activities fit for all holidaymakers. As well as taking to the local Godrevy Beach for a swim or a surf. According to Visit Cornwall Hayle has a series of beaches that sit alongside Hayle’s epic history. They explained: “The beaches are known as Hayle Towans, Mexico Towans, Upton Towans, Gwithian Towans and Godrevy Beach, a Towan being the Cornish name for a sand dune. “Out of season, the beach is perfect for long walks with the dog, whilst history and nature buffs should climb up into the dunes to discover the remains of the gunpowder works.” Hayle is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbour St Ives (Image: Getty) Although Hayle is a popular tourist spot today, in the past, it was a massive mining port and home to steam engine manufacturers as the Industrial Revolution took off. Hayle is also a great town for birdwatching or going for long bracing walks along Cornwall’s epic coastline. Cornish Secrets recommended a climb of Trencrom Hill which they claim “is the highest point in the old district of Penwith with wonderful views from the top”. They added: “To the south, you’ll see Mount’s Bay and St Michael’s Mount and to the east appreciate Hayle’s beaches in all their glory.” Among the paths available in Hayle is the King George V Memorial Walk, a scenic route attractive for those looking to trek or bird spot. The walk has received a series of positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Garry M said: “It’s a very well-kept level walk for anyone with mobility issues. The gardeners do an amazing job of keeping it all clear and tidy, several ponds with fish.
